On Thursday 24th October, L3Harris invited 10 of its key suppliers to a special event at its Portchester (UK) site. The Portchester site is the home of the company’s autonomous vessel development, design and manufacturing teams, formerly known as ASV Global.

“Our business has been through a lot of changes in recent years; we’ve experienced huge growth and been through an acquisition”, said Kevin Fraser, Materials Manager, L3Harris (ASV) Portchester.

“We wanted to host a supplier day to share our future plans with some of our strategic suppliers and most importantly, to thank them for all of their support”, he continued.

The day featured an overview of the company’s history, a product and technology development showcase, a facility tour and an update on the company’s procurement strategy and future business plans.

“It was fantastic to see the finished products, and to understand more about what the autonomous boats are used for. It was great to meet the whole team that’s involved and the senior management too” said David Figgins, Managing Director of DF Coatings.

“We didn’t quite realise the scale of the business and just how fast moving the autonomous boat industry is moving – it was impressive to see”, said Andrea Hollings, du Pré Marine Ltd.

“Most of us here today are marine engineers at heart and its always exciting to see such innovative technology. ASV has come a long way since we first began working together and now they are one of the industry leading producers of powered autonomous vessel systems”, said Martin Stemp, Managing Director, RS Aqua Ltd.

“We’ve worked with ASV, now L3Harris, since the very early days and they’re now one of our biggest customers. Through our work together, we at ACW have been able to invest in larger machinery which has also helped us on our growth journey too!” said Lee Birchwood, Managing Director, ACW Engineering Services Ltd.

“The supplier day provided a fantastic networking opportunity; we made contacts we wouldn’t have otherwise made which could give us some great synergy going forward”, he continued.

“As the market for autonomous vessel technology continues to grow, our suppliers will remain integral to our success – getting together to discuss ideas and to hear their own success stories has been fantastic. Here’s to the future!” said Mark Exeter, Managing Director, L3Harris (ASV) Portchester.
