The Control Team is the largest team at ASV Global and is continually growing. These people are the brains behind the control system; the hardware and software that makes a boat autonomous. Without them there would be no ‘A’ in ASV.
After completing a MEng Electronic Engineering degree, Rob Clark joined ASV Global as an Unmanned Systems Developer. From operating remote controlled mine hunting vehicles to building ROS and MOOS interfaces, Rob explains what makes his job as an Unmanned Systems Developer at ASV Global truly out of the ordinary…
What does your role involve?
Designing and building software components for unmanned vehicles. Integrating new sensors, propulsion systems and interfaces to third parties, installing these components on a vehicle and going out and testing/demoing it. Working with customers to integrate our equipment with theirs.
What is your favourite thing about working for ASV Global?
Getting out on the water and seeing a vehicle you built in action. Collaborating with other companies/academic institutions to make a cutting-edge system even better. Building and operating 1000HP remote controlled mine hunting USVs is also pretty cool…
What is your greatest achievement at ASV Global?
Building ROS and MOOS interfaces to our system so that big companies and hobbyists alike can test their (sometimes) wacky ideas on a stable platform. Travelling to the US and Scotland to watch our USVs form part of teams of air, sea and subsea unmanned vehicles all working together.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Skiing, anything that floats (bonus points if it has an ethernet port or wires hanging out of it).
We’re currently looking for Software Engineers of all experience levels, including graduates, to join our growing control team at Portchester, UK. Find out more here.Go Back
